Three Industry Leaders Unite Across Biomedical, Materials & Industrial Manufacturing

PuriBlood × FT International × KYMC

Launching PFK Bio-Med Barrier Coating Technology to Lead the Plastic / PFAS Free Packaging Revolution

[April 28, 2026] — PuriBlood, FT International Co., Ltd., and KYMC today jointly announced a strategic collaboration, combining core expertise across biomedical R&D, polymer material science, and industrial manufacturing equipment to advance PFK Bio-Med Barrier Coating Technology (PFK Bio-Med Barrier Coating) — a next-generation solution for the global packaging industry that delivers high-performance barrier properties, plastic-free, PFAS-free, biodegradable, and sustainable value, accelerating the industry's transition toward a circular economy and green transformation.

The name "PFK" is derived from the initials of the three partner companies — PuriBlood, FT International, and KYMC — and simultaneously represents the core principle of Plastic / PFAS Free Koating, underscoring the technology's foundational commitment to developing packaging materials free from plastics and PFAS. The "K" in "Koating" reflects KYMC's pivotal role in industrial-scale manufacturing and equipment integration, while embodying the spirit of co-creating a new technology platform across all three partners.

Technology Overview

PFK Bio-Med Barrier Coating Technology is built upon a foundation of medical-grade biomedical material research. Through the safe and precise design of natural medical materials, the technology imparts natural antibacterial properties, non-stick performance, high-barrier capability, and PFAS-free surface characteristics to packaging materials, with development oriented toward high-standard food-contact safety requirements. This platform addresses the global trend toward microplastic-free and PFAS-free packaging materials, while aligning with international brands' growing demand for packaging upgrades that balance sustainability with safety.

When combined with PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) material technology, the solution is further strengthened in barrier performance, processability, and overall sustainable value. PVA is a biodegradable, plastic-free, and non-toxic polymer that serves as a critical base material for next-generation green packaging. By integrating PFK Bio-Med Barrier Coating and PVA material technology, the combined solution addresses food-contact safety, material barrier performance, biodegradability, and circular-economy value — providing the packaging industry with a more forward-looking path for upgrades.

Partnership & Responsibilities

Under the terms of this collaboration, each partner will contribute as follows:

PuriBlood Will continue to advance core PFK biomedical materials technology and medical-grade materials R&D.

FT International Co., Ltd.  Will lead application development and market expansion in polymer materials and PVA barrier technology.

KYMC  Will integrate PFK technology into high-speed industrial production systems, providing end-to-end manufacturing solutions from development to full-scale production.

Through the integration of all three partners' resources, PFK Bio-Med Barrier Coating Technology can be applied to paper-based and multi-substrate surfaces, delivering excellent functional and barrier performance without PFAS and without reliance on conventional hard-to-recycle multilayer plastic structures. This platform responds to increasingly stringent global regulations on plastic reduction and sustainability, while meeting the demands of food, consumer goods, medical, and high-value packaging markets for high safety standards, low environmental impact, and high-performance materials.

Partner Statements

PuriBlood

We are honored to extend our medical-grade biomedical material technology into the field of sustainable packaging. The essence of PFK technology lies in using natural, medical-grade materials to impart safe, functional surface properties to materials, with development focused on high-standard food-contact safety and sustainable applications. This collaboration with FT International and KYMC — combining material innovation with industrial manufacturing capabilities — will help bring more applications that deliver both performance and environmental value to market.

FT International Co., Ltd.

In the face of accelerating global ESG transformation and tightening plastic reduction regulations, the market needs more than just substitute materials — it needs complete solutions that combine barrier performance, processability, safety, and sustainable value. PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) is itself biodegradable, plastic-free, and non-toxic. When combined with the medical-grade development background of PFK Bio-Med Barrier Coating Technology, this significantly enhances the application potential of next-generation packaging materials and brings us closer to meeting international brands' demands for food-contact safety and sustainable packaging upgrades.

KYMC

KYMC has long been committed to innovation in green printing and coating processes. The true value of PFK technology lies not only in its material performance but also in its high degree of industrial compatibility. By integrating KYMC's high-speed coating and printing systems, we help customers adopt advanced sustainable materials alongside their existing production lines, accelerating their green transformation.

Outlook

This collaboration marks a significant milestone for Taiwan in integrating sustainable materials technology and advanced manufacturing. From molecular design and medical-grade functional material R&D in the laboratory, to industrial-scale validation and market deployment, the PFK technology platform is steadily forming a complete foundation for commercialization.

Going forward, all three partners will continue to expand the application of PFK Bio-Med Barrier Coating and PVA material technology across food packaging, vacuum compression packaging, precision electronics protection, medical supplies, and other high-value market segments — delivering practical solutions toward global goals of plastic reduction, detoxification, and the circular economy.
